Chef In The Woods is a small, countryside cafe tucked away on a quiet, single-lane road near Whitchurch. It’s the kind of spot that feels purposely set apart from the hustle—perfect for anyone looking to slow down and enjoy a simple, well-made meal surrounded by nature. The cafe has a rustic charm with a cosy outdoor setup that now includes a teepee with a log burner, making it welcoming even on cooler or damp days.

The menu leans heavily on homemade, comforting baked goods and hearty snacks. The pork pie, notably larger than you might expect, and the scones are regular praise points, alongside fresh, seasonal treats like strawberry tarts. While coffee here is filtered and might not impress in comparison to the pastries, it fits the relaxed, unfussy vibe of the place. Hot chocolate also tends to be a popular choice, especially for those taking a break after a walk.

This cafe seems to attract walkers, dog owners, and locals looking for a low-key spot to enjoy a bite before or after wandering around nearby Brown Moss. The outdoor seating is practical and sheltered, with plenty of bins around to keep the area tidy—a reminder that this is as much about enjoying the countryside as it is about the food. Those visiting should check social media for up-to-date opening times and the daily food selection because the offerings can vary day-to-day.

Visitors should note that getting here requires navigating narrow rural roads, which adds a layer of quiet seclusion but is worth keeping in mind for timing. The overall atmosphere is laid-back, naturally scenic, and quietly satisfying, making it better suited for casual meet-ups or solo stops rather than formal dining occasions. Whether it’s a cream tea with a view or a quick stop for a croissant and a walk with the dog, Chef In The Woods fits neatly into a slower pace of local life.

We love the chef in the woods for its location and food. They now have a teepee with a log burner inside for those cooler or wetter days. We had a cheeseburger and a fish butty which were great. We also had a fresh strawberry tart and a cheese and leek pastry. We love all of their food as most of it is homemade and tastes amazing. We then walk it off around brown moss with the dog. Proper nature day.

Excellent. Went for a walk around brown moss and decided to try one of the famous pork pies - it was much bigger than i expected, roughly the size of my palm! Had a cute little set up for seating, which was suitable for most weathers, plenty of bins around and a sweet little shack to order from. Great atmosphere! Hot chocolate was to die for! Lovely treat and was reasonably priced! They also take card!

Staying nearby and stumbled onto Chef in the Woods. Their Cream Teas and Pastries were divine, well priced with a fantastic scenery. If you are passing, I would highly recommend this quaint getaway!

Very rural, roads are all single lane when getting close to the cafe, so please be aware, Lovely scenery and worth the trip for a walk round. pork pie was very nice. Coffee is filtered and doesn't match the quality of the pastries on offer.

First time here , bought pork pie, sausage roll, scone and flapjack as takeaway . Lovely place to stop and eat but we were in a rush so chose takeout. Everything was delicious but the porkpie was off the scale . My son who isn’t normally a fan of porkpie loved it.
